This art work is a typical direct modelling style. It is a story of top local dancers performing during an occasion of New yam festival as widely celebrated across several communities in Igbo land. These drummers are specially invited when occasion calls for and they always get the audience entertained by their dramatic performances. Drumming and dancing are two inseparable activities that decorate any social event in both traditional and modern Igbo society.
These indigenous songs are vocally rendered with the help of local instruments, whereas the dancers are young talented performers of both gender trained for the big-day. The melody from the song and the corresponding dance to the rhythm, leave the players and audience in ecstasy. As the saying goes , ‘No smoke without fire’ so is no cultural event without drumming and dancing in Igbo society. It is indeed a must-watch because these activities do not happen everyday.
